Yuvraj Singh, once the blue-eyed boy of Indian cricket, stands as one of those solitary fringe figures. The dashing left-hand batsman, who recently turned 37, was counted among the top names in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but could go himself going unsold in the upcoming auction for the 2019 edition of the annual carnival. He found a sole bidder in the Kings XI Punjab in 2018, just three years after he finished as the top buy, but a poor form saw him getting released by his home-based franchise.

However, as it is always with special talents, Yuvraj currently showed some form as he hit 41 runs off 34 balls (8x4s) in the ongoing game for his home state Punjab against Tamil Nadu and just two days ahead of the auction in Jaipur, could it give the man of the series of the 2011 World Cup another to redeem his pride?

Yuvi impresses against TN

Yuvraj, who missed a few games for Punjab before playing the match against Delhi last month, is not in great touch of late and was showing signs of returning to form in the Tamil Nadu game but eventually got out nine runs short of his half-century. Given the match’s status, there is little chance Yuvraj would get to bat again in this game and have another go to impress the franchises of the IPL, a tournament in which he has amassed 2,652 runs in 128 games in 10 seasons at a strike rate of 129 plus. He did not play the 2012 edition as he was battling cancer then.

The 37-year-old who recently announced his foundation YouWeCan of undertaking the noble initiative of supporting 25 underprivileged children battling cancer, has played international cricket between 2000 and 2017, scoring over 11,000 runs with 17 hundreds. Besides bagging the Player of the Tournament award of the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj’s other top moment in international cricket was hitting six sixes in an over against England in the World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007.
