Cricket is a contest between bat and ball. Though the shorter version of the game is being dominated by the batsmen lately, a team needs good bowlers to put up a good performance on the field. Batsmen usually go hard in the first six overs when the field is up and steady the ship in the middle of the innings before they go all guns blazing at the death.

Bowling at the death is one of the most difficult tasks for a bowler. The shorter boundaries haven’t helped as batsmen are increasingly getting away with bad shots. While the Sunrisers Hyderabad have been the best bowling side in the Indian Premier League, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have gone for cleaners in the death overs. Yuzvendra Chahal feels that RCB needs to improve its bowling at the death overs for the team to have a chance of making it to the playoffs.

The Chokers tag

RCB needs to win all of their remaining games and also hope that few other results go their way. While Chahal has been doing well for RCB, he hasn’t received much support from other bowlers. Playing for RCB is not the same as playing for India. While playing for India, Chahal is backed by the likes of Bumrah and Bhuvneshvar Kumar. However, franchises do not have the luxury of fielding all the best bowlers in the world which is why Chahal has added responsibility on his shoulders.

“The wicket in Bangalore is helpful for bowlers this year and if our batsmen still get us 180, it’s a huge plus point for us. We reached the finals in 2016 because the batsmen put on 200 runs in almost every game. But that can’t happen every time, and as a bowling unit, we must know that we will not get 200 runs to defend every game. On some occasions, we have to defend 160 too.” Chahal was quoted as saying by sportstarlive.com.

On Saturday, RCB won its first away game of the season after defeating the Delhi Daredevils. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers put up a big partnership to ensure that RCB gets over the line and maintain the hopes of making it to the playoffs. The ‘chokers’ tag has come to haunt RCB once again as the team looks strong on paper but fails to deliver on the field.
