The ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season will see the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades facing each other for the second time. This is also the first of the five consecutive home matches for the Sixers who are currently at the third position in the points table after eight matches with four wins. Even the Renegades are in the mid-table clash with them at the fifth place with the same points.
Both the teams are coming off thumping losses in their previous encounters and no wonder would be looking to improve their show. The Sixers will start as the favourites having won the previous clash between the two sides comfortably by 33 runs. Their batting has blown hot and cold this year and looks finally settled to post and gun down the decent totals. Moises Henriques, the skipper, has also come back in form at the right time as they will be looking to drive home the advantage.
The Renegades have not been consistent enough despite promising a lot this season. They succumbed to the heavy defeat of 101 runs against the Heat and surely wouldn’t want to happen again with the tournament moving fast with every passing day. The team looks fairly settled even as Cameron White’s absence is still not known from the playing XI. They will be eager to shrug off the loss from the last game and start thinking about the knockout phase now.
Pitch and Conditions
This will be the third game at the SCG this season and two matches at the venue so far have seen the scores of 164 and 130 in the first innings. Batting first looks to be the good option which was also evident during the first ODI between India and Australia. After witnessing so much rain at the start of the year, the clouds will be clear throughout the day with the temperatures hovering around 25-27 Degrees Celsius.
Team Combinations
Sydney Sixers
The Sixers have made one change to their squad bringing in Lloyd Pope for Justin Avendano who got injured in the warm-up. Though it looks unlikely that they will make any changes to the playing XI unless the pitch offers a significant turn. James Vince’s inclusion has bolstered their batting and the onus will also be on Henriques and Daniel Hughes as well.
Probable XI: Daniel Hughes, Jack Edwards, James Vince, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk, Josh Phillipe (wk), Tom Curran, Sean Abbott, Steve O’Keefe, Ben Dwarshuis, Ben Manenti.
Melbourne Renegades
Kane Richardson returns to the squad after recovering from the hamstring soreness which led him to miss a couple of matches. He might replace Joe Mennie who conceded 46 runs in the three overs against the Heat. The rest of the line-up will be the same for the Renegades. Sam Harper is the consistent batsman for them while the likes of Marcus Harris and Mohammad Nabi are tipped to raise their game as well. Daniel Christian has also been inconsistent and should be looking to make an impact.
Probable XI: Mackenzie Harvey, Marcus Harris, Sam Harper (wk), Tom Cooper (c), Beau Webster, Mohammad Nabi, Daniel Christian, Jack Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Harry Gurney.
Probable Top Performers
James Vince – Sydney Sixers | Mohammad Nabi – Melbourne Renegades
