The Indian Premier League 2023 auction is set to take place on December 23 in Kochi. Last season, the two most successful franchises of the league Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) failed to deliver according to expectations and ended at the bottom of the points table.

At the auction table on December 23, the two franchises will look to get some quality players to perform well in the upcoming season and get their hands on the IPL trophy. The teams enter the auction with a similar purse, with CSK having INR 20.45 crore and MI 20.55 crore. Going through their requirements, it could be said that both franchises may engage in a bidding war to rope in some names that might become valuable for them in the forthcoming edition.

Here are 5 players who might be chased by both MI and CSK at auction:

5. Vidwath Kaverappa

Vidwath Kaverappa has performed extremely well in a couple of domestic tournaments. He looked excellent for Karnataka at the the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23, picking up 18 wickets at an economy of 6.36 in eight games. The 23-year-old finished as the second-leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Further, he took 17 wickets at an economy rate of 3.53 in eight games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23.

Considering his numbers for Karnataka in the domestic circuit, both MI and CSK may show interest in him. Last month, MI released Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, and Basil Thampi. Therefore, the five-time title winners might add Kaverappa to bolster the bowling attack with Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff.

On the other hand, CSK also parted ways with the Chris Jordan due to his underwhelming bowling display in the last edition. Given Kaverappa’s recent scintillating shows, CSK might look to add him in their squad.
