The player auction for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League took place on December 23 in Kochi. 405 cricketers featured at the marquee event but with a squad limit of 25 players, only 80 were able to fetch IPL contracts.
Many top-drawer cricketers went under the hammer at IPL 2023 auction and franchises left no stone unturned to acquire their services. However, there were certain players who garnered interest from many teams and IPL sides went into a serious bidding duel to sign them.
5. Shivam Mavi
Shivam Mavi has been a consistent performer in the Indian domestic circuit. He has featured in 36 List-A matches and bagged 59 wickets at an economy of 4.85. The 24-year-old has shown glimpses of brilliance in the lucrative T20 tournament and taken 30 wickets in 32 games at an economy of 8.71.
Mavi was quite phenomenal in the domestic arena in the year 2022. He was the wrecker-in-chief for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and picked up 10 wickets in seven games at an economy of 6.64. The ace pacer displayed his bowling might in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 too and took 14 wickets in seven games at an economy of 4.15.
Given the Noida-born was in the vein of form, IPL teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals tried to add him to their arsenal at the recently culminated player auction. In the end, GT placed a bid of INR 6 crore for Mavi and roped him into their side.
