‘Makes life difficult for batters’ - Wasim Jaffer in awe of Trent Boult’s match-winning performance against Sri Lanka

New Zealand crushed Sri Lanka by a mammoth 65 runs in their Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Majestic performances from Glenn Phillips with the bat and Trent Boult with the ball has made their case for the last four stronger in the marquee tournament.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer heaped ultimate praise on the pacer Boult who struck once again for his side and this time with a four-fer, giving merely 13 runs at an economy rate of 3.25 against the Lankan Lions.

“When Trent Boult is on song, he does that! He’s done that to India in the World Cup in 2019, he gets two-three quick wickets and puts you behind the game. 4/13 in four overs, absolutely magical! When the ball starts to swing, he makes life difficult for batters, that’s exactly what he did along with Tim Southee. There are not many players who can do that with the new ball, but Boult can do it again and again. He’s such an important player for them in the powerplay,” said Jaffer on ‘BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker’.

Net run rate will matter: Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer further enunciated how the overall net run rate will affect Sri Lanka and the sides present in Group 1.

“They’ve (New Zealand) got great backups such as Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, and when the other teams are five for three, eight for four, Sri Lanka needed Bhanuka and Shanaka who got 30s to put on 60 maybe 70s to get close to the target. Because losing close to 60 runs would have hurt their net run rate. This groups results will go to the end, probably! So, the net run rate will matter. Sri Lanka will be upset that they lost the game but also did not go close to the total,” Jaffer added.
