ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 Schedule
The ICC and the BCCI released the official schedule of the eagerly-awaited 2023 ODI World Cup on June 27. 10 teams will take part in the event which will played across 10 cities as part of the World Cup 2023 Venues in India from October 5 to November 19. Prior to the mega event, teams will engage in their respective warm-up fixtures as the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati, and the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram will be the other two host venues for the games.
Speaking about the participants in the competition, eight teams in India (host), New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa earned a direct qualification. The final two berths will be determined at the end of the World Cup Qualifier tournament held in Zimbabwe. The global marquee event follows a round robin format wherein each team plays every other team once in the mix. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the top four teams with most points will progress for the semi-finals followed by the summit clash.
The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash will be held on October 15 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. England and New Zealand will kickstart the event on October 5 in Ahmedabad in a recap of the 2019 World Cup final. The Men in Blue face Australia in their campaign-opener on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On the other hand, Australia will be up against Bangladesh in the final group stage match which will be played in Pune on November 12.
Australia have lifted the title a record five times going by the ODI Cricket World Cup Winners List. Both India and West Indies have won the joint second-most number of titles, with two trophies in their illustrious cabinet. England clinched the title in 2019 and will be gunning to defend their title in their forthcoming campaign.
