The Indian team continued their unbeaten run this home season, after defeating Sri Lanka across every format of the game.The nations played their last T20 encounter on Christmas Eve, as the Men in Blue came back with all smiles after the Rohit Sharma-led team thrashed Sri Lanka by five wickets to sweep the three-match Twenty20 International series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Taking charge of the captaincy duties for the first time ever, India skipper Rohit Sharma continued with his six-hitting spree in the third and final T20 fixture at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Chasing 136 for a 3-0 sweep, Rohit clobbered Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya for a massive six for his 65th in international cricket match in 2017 before falling for a 20-ball 27 to Dasun Shanaka. In the process, Rohit finished with 65 international sixes in a calendar year bettering South African AB de Villiers’ tally of 63 which he had achieved the feat in 2015 and Chris Gayle’s 59 in 2012.
Rohit Sharma shattered series of records in the Sri Lanka series
Earlier during the ODI leg against the Islanders, the talismanic right-hander scored a historic third double hundred to guide India to a comprehensive victory in the 2nd ODI at Mohali. With the triple ton, Rohit became the only cricketer to score more than one double hundred in ODIs. Four other batsmen who have achieved a double century in ODIs are Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill – with only one each.
Also, in the 2nd T20 fixture at Indore, Rohit scored his second T20I century off just 35 balls for the joint-fastest hundred in T20Is. He equaled the record of David Miller, who achieved the feat against Bangladesh at Potchefstroom in October 2017.
