Sanju Samson, the youngster who grabbed the attention due to his performances in the Indian Premier League and domestic circuit, was recalled in the T20I squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh. However, Samson failed to feature in the starting squad in all three T20I. Many fans were enraged regarding Samson being benched for the entire series. However, the 25-year-old has been drafted back in the Indian side for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.

Considered as a prodigy, Samson was included in the Indian team as a replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan. He has amassed runs for Kerela on a consistent rate and has been lauded by many former cricketers including Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh.

The right-hander is expected to garner much attention on the international stage if he carries on his prolific run-scoring form. Moreover, Samson is also seen as a possible replacement for wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who has failed to cement his spot in the Indian side. Pant, 22, who was touted as Dhoni’s possible replacement, has been censured for his haphazard decisions on the field.

With the sword looming over Pant’s head, it will be a perfect opportunity for Samson to affix his spot in the Indian side. The Kerela batsman has been keeping the wickets for Kerela for many years now. Ahead of the T20I series against West Indies, Samson has said he is ready to keep wickets for India if asked to do so by the team management.

Sanju Samson is preparing himself both as a keeper and a fielder

“I have been keeping wickets in white-ball cricket for Kerala for the last five or six years and have also kept in the Ranji Trophy format. I keep that as an open thing. Whatever my team requires, I do it accordingly,” said Samson.

The 25-year-old has revealed that he is preparing himself both as a keeper and a fielder. Samson also highlighted that his main priority will always be what the team management wants from him.

“In the IPL, whenever my team wanted me to keep I did. But they at the time felt I could contribute more on the field, so I did that. I prepare for myself both as a keeper and fielder because you never know what the team is looking at,” Samson was quoted by TimesNow.

“I can’t explain every time to everyone what is happening in the team management. I am a keeper and when my team wants me to keep, I do that and when they ask me to field I do that. I can’t tell the team what I want to do right? The team is the priority,” he added.
