India had every chance of winning their erstwhile Test against England at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, however, they couldn’t and lost the match by 60 runs. To add insult to injury, they also lost the series 1-3. The fifth and final Test will be played at Kennington Oval in London. Barring Virat Kohli, the other batsmen haven’t been able to lend appropriate support to the bowlers

The Indian captain has scored 544 runs thus far at an average of 68, but the next top scorer for the visiting team is Cheteshwar Pujara with 241 runs in three contests. In the meantime, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper, reckons that the abilities of the current bunch of Indian batters have diminished significantly, which is why India have floundered in every big series.

“This batting lineup hasn’t been making runs for a long time now. If you look at India’s overseas performances from 2011 until now, they have lost every big series. When Virat Kohli is at the crease it seems that he is playing against totally different bowlers as compared to when the other batsmen are batting. I believe that the batting ability of the current players has gone down,” he told India TV.

Regarding Ravi Shastri, he has to be held accountable

Earlier this year, India lost their series against South Africa 1-2 and they couldn’t do well on English soil as well. Moreover, they also have faltered in their erstwhile tours of Australia. Ganguly believes that head coach Ravi Shastri and batting coach Sanjay Bangar should be held accountable for India’s dismal show.

Moreover, he also called for the answers to the poor performance of the Indian batsman, without which he believes winning in countries like Australia, South Africa, and England will be a far cry for the Indian team in the future.

“Regarding Ravi Shastri, he has to be held accountable for the results along with Sanjay Bangar regarding why only one batsman is performing whereas others seem to have taken backward steps. Unless these questions are answered an overseas series win in the three countries looks impossible for India,” he added.
