From bhangra to Gagnam Style, jubilation on the cricket field always finds unique ways to express itself.  The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 was privy to one such unique way of celebration on Friday (August 17) where the St Lucia Stars clinched a 38-run victory over the Barbados Tridents. The man showing off his unique moves was the young Afghanistan leg-spinner, Qais Ahmad.

The ongoing edition of the CPL is turning out to be an extremely exciting affair, be it blistering sixes from the likes of Chris Gayle or sensational performances from youngsters like Ahmad. The Jamaica Tallawahs are leading the race with 6 points to their name, while the St Lucia Stars are at the bottom most rung of the ladder with just two points in their kitty.

Qais Ahmad takes wicket, celebrates with a front flip

18-year old Aghanistan leggie, Qais Ahmad was extremely impressive with the ball against the Barbados Tridents as he scalped the prized wicket of Dwayne Smith. The Afghan youngster fired one in on the middle stump. Smith did manage to pick up the ball early but to no avail. He slog-swept it on his leg side and deposited a dolly of a catch straight into the hands of his national teammate, Lendl Simmons at the boundary.

What followed suit was a flawless front-flip from the excited Ahmad. With a big, beaming smile on his face, the young man took a short run-up and landed a perfect front-flip to celebrate the wicket. St Lucia Stars posted the biggest total in the history of the CPL in the same game as they registered 226 runs in 20 overs, guided by the breathtaking century off the bat of Kieron Pollard. This was a monumental task to have been achieved, given that David Warner, Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy had all departed for ducks previously.

In reply, Barbados Tridents fell short by 38 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Dwayne Smith put in an honest effort with his innings of 58 runs to resurrect his team’s standing in the game. However, lack of proper partnerships and some top notch bowling from the Stars ensured that there was no resistance from the other end.
