2017 turned out to be an interesting year for the ODI format that witnessed happenings against the recent trends of huge totals and big scores by individuals. No team broke the 400-run barrier for the first time in four years but an ODI double ton was achieved for the first time since the 2015 CWC under the latest field restrictions. The bowlers did have a year to remember as only the 3rd time multiple 7-wicket hauls were recorded in a calendar year and the first ever year with eight 6-fers in ODI cricket.

All the stats and numbers that were recorded in 2017 in the ODI format:

3 – As many as three hat-tricks were recorded in ODI format in 2017. Taskin Ahmed bagged a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in a game that got washed out while Wanidu Hasaranga took on his ODI debut against Zimbabwe. Kuldeep Yadav was the 3rd and the last to take an ODI hat-trick this year.


3 – Number of 5-wicket hauls for Hasan Ali in 2017 ODIs; the most for any player. Rashid Khan (2) and Trent Boult (2) are the only ones with multiple 5-fers this year. Rashid and Liam Plunkett bagged four 4-fers each this year which are the most by anyone.


6Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma scored six centuries each in 2017 which are the most by any other player in this format. They both scored 13 and 11 ODI fifty-plus scores respectively in 2017 while no other player scored more than ten fifty-plus scores.


7/18 – Rashid Khan’s 7/18 against Windies in Gros Islet in June are the best bowling figures this year. Trent Boult also took a 7-wicket haul in 2017 when he recorded figures of 7/34 against the Windies in Christchurch.


21 – Number of matches India won in this year which are easily the most by any side. They featured in 29 games which are also the most along with Sri Lanka.


23Sri Lanka lost 23 matches in the ODI format in 2017 which are the most by any side. Windies (16) are the only other side to lose more than 10 ODIs this year.


39 – MS Dhoni’s 39 dismissals are the most for any wicketkeeper in 2017. His 26 catches are the joint-most along with Jos Buttler but his 13 stumpings in 2017 are 2.5 times more than the next best.


45 – Hasan Ali is the leading wicket-taker in the 2017 ODIs with 45 wickets. Rashid Khan (43) is the only other with 40 and more wickets this year.

46 – Rohit Sharma’s 46 sixes in ODI format in 2017 are the most by any player. Hardik Pandya comes next to Rohit with 30 sixes. Virat Kohli’s 136 fours are the most by any player in 2017 ODIs.


54/10 – Zimbabwe’s total of 54/10 against Afghanistan in Harare is the lowest team total in 2017. It is also the only ODI total under 100 in this year.


208* – Rohit’s unbeaten 208 against Sri Lanka in Mohali is the highest individual score of 2017 in the ODI format.


284David Warner and Travis Head put on 284 against Pakistan in Adelaide for the first wicket in January which is the highest partnership for any wicket in 2017.


392/4India’s total of 392/4 in the Mohali ODI against Sri Lanka is the highest team total in 2017. India recorded three of the top four ODI totals in 2017 while Sri Lanka were on the receiving side in three of the top three totals.

747 – The India-England ODI in Cuttack aggregated 747 runs which are the most in an ODI in 2017. The first ODI of the series in Pune saw a total of 706 runs scored which is the only other ODI with 700-run aggregate. The Pakistan-Sri Lanka Sharjah ODI (206 runs) saw the lowest in a completed game this year.


1460 – With 1460 runs, Virat Kohli stood as the leading run-getter in the 2017 ODIs. Rohit Sharma (1293) and Upul Tharanga (1011) are the other players with 1000 ODI runs this year.
