The Cricket Association Of Bengal (CAB) president, Sourav Ganguly was present in Pune on Monday to witness the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Bengal are taking on Delhi with a spot in the finals at stake.

The upcoming South Africa tour has been garnering a lot of attention in the Indian camp. It’s supposed to be captain Virat Kohli’s biggest assignment till date. Also with the team ranked No.1 in the format, it would be interesting to see how India fare, given their past performances in the country.

Let’s wait and see if this is the best Indian bowling attack

Ganguly was quite optimistic when talking about the pace battery that the Indian team boasts of. However, he has his fingers crossed when asked if it was the best bowling attack.

“Let’s see. We will find out if this is the best bowling attack or not. They have got pace for sure. Umesh has pace, Bhuvneshwar is in good form, so let’s wait,” Ganguly was quoted as saying on TOI.

The Indian squad consists of five pacers including Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah as well. The squad also has seam bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya who would be really handy against the Proteas.

Rahane is a quality player

Ajinkya Rahane had a poor series against Sri Lanka. The Indian vice-captain managed to register just 17 runs in the 3 Tests he played. His average was a meagre 3.40 which is highly questionable for a player of his calibre. However, Dada remarked that it doesn’t concern him as Rahane was a quality player.

“No, I don’t think Ajinkya Rahane’s form is a concern as he is a quality player. Virat Kohli, Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay have all been to South Africa. The best thing is that they are going back to South Africa as better players,” Ganguly stated.
