England will be hoping to register their first Test series win in the Windies in 15 years while almost every other visiting team is known for their glory in the recent past in the Caribbean Islands. England lost the 5-match Test series here in 2009 by 1-0 margin and had to settle for a draw during the 2015 tour. Given the way the Jason Holder-led team performed during the home Tests in 2018, it won’t be easy for the English side to put an end to their jinx.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the Test series between Windies and England:

1 – Number of Test wins in Windies for England from their last eight matches. Five of those eight ended in a draw including an abandoned game due to a poor outfield. England won one and lost two in those eight.

Since the start of 2005, England is one of the two visiting teams to win as few as one Test match in Windies. Zimbabwe is the other team, who in fact never won a Test in the Caribbean Islands.

2 – Number of centuries in his last seven Test innings for Joe Root. The England skipper spent 27 consecutive innings without a three-figure score prior to his century against India at the Oval.

27.3 – Jason Holder’s bowling strike-rate in a calendar year in 2018 Test matches; the 5th best for any player in a calendar year and the best since 1958. (Min: 25 wickets) Holder bagged 33 wickets from six Tests in 2018 at an average of 12.39 with help of four 5-wicket hauls.

23rd Jan – January 23rd is the earlier date in the last 50 calendar years where Windies will be hosting an International match. Since 1968, the Caribbean Islands has hosted an International game in January only once thus far.

The 1998 Test match between these two sides that began on 29th January at the Kingston was abandoned after 10.1 overs of play owing to a dangerous pitch.

78.25 – Root’s batting average against the Windies in Test cricket is his best against any opposition. He scored 626 runs from six matches against the Caribbean team with two centuries and four fifties in nine innings.

273 – Darren Bravo aggregated 273 runs during his last Test series which was against Pakistan way back in 2016. Bravo scored a century and a fifty during that series played in UAE.

2009 – Six out of the nine visiting teams to play a Test series in Windies since 2009 have returned with at least one series win. England, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are the three teams that failed to win a Test series in the Windies in the past decade. The Lankans never won a Test series in the Carribean islands while Zimbabwe never won a Test in this part of the World.
