The excitement is building up, as we head onto another Indian Premier League auction on December 23 in Kochi. Although it will be a shorter one, with 405 players across the globe, the list comprises T20 superstars, who have done well in franchise leagues. Only 87 player spots are up for grabs, with 30 of them being overseas.

Out of 405, 273 are Indian and 132 are overseas players.  Until the 86th player, the auction will proceed at a normal pace, but afterwards, the franchises will submit the names, of whom they think can fit into the scheme of their things.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have the highest purse amount of INR 42.25 crore, followed by Punjab Kings with INR 32.2 crore. KKR have the lowest amount of INR 7.05 crore in their kitty. With plenty of competition to fill up the last few spots, there can be few players, who might not get enough traction from the franchise.

Here are five players who might not find traction from the franchises at the upcoming IPL 2023 auction.

1. Ishant Sharma

The Indian speedster has not played enough T20 cricket in the last few years. In fact, he is out of the red-ball team as well due to the falling graph of performances in the home as well as away series. Moreover, the frequent injury concerns have troubled him in the last few years, and other bowlers have cemented their place in the squads.

In terms of his IPL performances, Ishant has 84 wickets in 104 games. His last full-blown appearance came in the 2019 season for Delhi Capitals, wherein he picked 13 wickets in as many games. However, he could only feature in a total of four matches in the 2020 and 2021 seasons combined while picking up only a solitary wicket.

The 34-year-old went unsold at the IPL 2022 auction wherein he had put a base price of INR 1.5 crore. At the upcoming auction, he has kept his base price at INR 50 lakhs. Although he has reduced his base amount, the experienced pacer has played only a handful of white-ball games in the 2022 domestic season, with ordinary performances and it is something that might go against him.
