Team India lost the third and final One-Day International against England at Headingley and with that the series as well. It proved to be their first ODI series loss under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The hosts cantered to a victory while chasing 257 runs courtesy of Eoin Morgan and Joe Root. For the first time in many months, the Men in Blue were at the receiving end in a one-sided game. However, Virender Sehwag has backed them to come back strong by learning from this loss.

The visitors never looked up for the decider as their openers were caught napping in front of some quality seam and swing bowling. Also, the dependency on Kohli is too much as it was evident in the last couple of matches. Other batsmen never looked comfortable in the middle which cost them the series despite winning the first match.

Sehwag’s tweet

Virender Sehwag tried to buck up the team with his tweet after a thumping they received at the hands of clinical England. He felt that they will have to learn from this defeat and avoid the mistakes they made in the last three games. The former Indian cricketer might be referring to the World Cup which will take place in the same country next year.

India’s middle-order muddle has gone deep now with neither KL Rahul nor Dinesh Karthik able to make a mark in the limited opportunities so far. The latter looked assured during his 21-run knock but was undone by Adil Rashid. Also, Suresh Raina failed to seal his place in the side who was tipped to play the role of a finisher at 6 to give a breathing space to MS Dhoni.

India’s next ODI assignment is in November now and they will have to find quick solutions to their problems as Sehwag has mentioned indirectly in his message for them.
